Newsletter – Winter 2022/23

Another busy year completed at Lac Serreire and Badgers Holt.

It was fantastic to finally have a full year without the previous Covid and travel restrictions. Lac Serreire was fished by 47 anglers this year who caught 354 carp to mid fifties.  We were again impressed with the massive growth rates of the stock with some fish gaining over 9lb on the previous season and lots of fish caught in the upper 40s.  One group of four anglers even managed to catch 93 carp in a single week including a fifty and 18 x 40s, we are very excited to see what 2023 brings!

Over on Badgers Holt the average weight of the stock continues to grow and now exceeds over 45lb. During one November week Peter and Marcel caught 16 carp including a 70lb 4oz mirror and a 66lb 14oz common as well as numerous other 50s and 40s!  We also identified a few other rarer scaley fish that i had not seen before, it is really surprising how many fish avoid capture for several years.

Further improvements to the complex over the year and prior to the 2o23 season include;

  • Swim upgrades to both Lac Serreire and Badgers Holt.
  • Lac Serreire netted and 1500lb of roach removed thereby improving the biomass.
  • Improved aeration systems for both lakes.
  • A further 25 carp to over 42lb added to Lac Serreire.
  • A further 4 carp added to mid 40s to Badgers Holt.
  • Snag and tree removal.
  • Wind channels created.
  • Siltex applied to both lakes.
  • Extensive marginal planting to assist with nitrate control.
  • The addition of a ‘Ladies only’ toilet and shower room.
  • New range of  ‘lake Specials’ added for purchase on site as well as season specific pellet and particle.
  • Further stock added to the on-site tackle shop.
  • Breakfast baguettes available for bookings of two or more anglers.

Extensive winter feeding continues on both lakes and we look forward to again starting our season during March 2023.

We still have a few 2023 Lac Serreire weeks available and occasionally get cancellations for Badgers Holt so please get in touch if you need more information.
